G7 Summit … Canada assumes the presidency of the 2018 G7 Summit that will be held June 8 and 9 at the Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu, in La Malbaie in the Charlevoix region.

A bit of history… The Group of Seven (G7) is formed of seven countries: Canada, France, Allemagne, Italie, Japon, Royaume-Uni and the United States. This “informal” group comes together each year to build consensus and set trends around some of today’s most challenging global issues. Back in 1975, during the oil crisis, Mr Giscard D’Estaing, President of the French Republic, urged these countries to meet and find a way to resolve that problem. Canada was invited to join the Group in 1976.

The sherpas … G7 leaders appoint high-ranking government officials to organize different meetings all year round to deliberate on the potential agenda issues that will be discussed at the summit.

The end results… The host country – Canada – will publish a document explaining what was discussed during the meetings and the agreements reached by the members. This paper will be available to the public.

Maple Leaf Guide Services… The International Media Centre will be located at the Québec City Convention Center. To let the media representatives discover the historic and local flavors of our city, three guided tours have been designed for them. Accompanied by a certified guide, they will visit Old Québec and end their tour with a picnic of Québec products in a parc, or a “5 à 7” with a local beer in an ancestral house or with a sunset cruise on the St.Lawrence (Québec-Lévis ferry) with a snack du terroir.
